Uganda’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Amelia Kyambadde days ago met COMESA’s executive management in Lusaka where she was briefed on COMESA’s regional integration programmes in general with a focus on Uganda.
The Secretary General Chileshe Mpundu Kapwepwe alongside Assistant Secretary General Administration and Finance Dr Dev Haman, Director of Trade and Monetary Affairs Dr Francis Mangeni and Director of Finance Mr Clement Kanyama briefed Minister Kyambadde.
The specific updates focused on programmes in trade, industrialization, infrastructure, agriculture, innovation, gender and visibility.
COMESA is a significant export market for Uganda supporting the country’s export based private-sector driven development strategy.
As a land-linked country, Uganda values facilitative links to its neighbours such as Sudan, Congo DR, Rwanda and Kenya. Infrastructure and trade corridors, and customs facilitation are therefore critical interventions.
