Vivo Energy Uganda through its brand Shell V-Power have announced a sponsorship deal to a tune of Shs110 million towards the organisation of the 2019 Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally.
The announcement was made in Kampala on Thursday morning during the launch of the 2019 edition of the Pearl of Africa Rally at Shell Bugolobi. The function was graced by the Federation of Motorsports Clubs of Uganda (FMU) president Dusman Okee and Vivo Energy Managing Director in Uganda Gilbert Assi.
“We are delighted to continue with the support of the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally. Shell’s partnership with Ferrari provides an environment to test our Shell V-Power fuels in extreme conditions. This provides a better understanding of what will deliver improved power and performance for your car engine and why the Pearl of Africa Rally trust Shell V-Power,” Assi said.

In addition to sponsoring the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally, Vivo will also be sponsoring four Ugandan Champion drivers, Arthur Blick and Ronald Ssebuguzi each with a sponsorship of 65M, Omar Mayanja with Shs40 million and Umar Kakamya with Shs5 million making a total sponsorship of Shs285 million.
The Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally (POAUR) 2019 will be the 5th Round of the Federation Internationale de I’Automobile (FIA) Africa Rally Championship.
The total length of the rally will be approximately 476 Kms. It will be run on gravel roads in the private sugar cane plantations 90 Kms east of Kampala, around the town of Kayunga and Busiika. It will run from 2nd to 3rd August.
The championship will see the participation of Uganda’s top Motorsport drivers like Arthur Blick, Leon Ssenyange and Ronald Ssebuguzi as well as the foreign drivers.
The Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally is one of the main motorsport events in Uganda. It is part of the National Rally Championship and the FIA African Rally Championship (ARC).
